If my BR roo attacks me again, he may be coming with me, someone could trade me a hen/pullet for him and eat him. He's so big and pretty but I don't like getting attacked! Yes, I've tried carrying him around, holding his comb down and giving him a little shake, I've also tried fighting back which made it worse. He attacked my daughter last Friday (she's 18) and scratched her legs up. For now, I'll keep trying cuz I like him for protection of the girls. https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/uploads/94276_chooks_014.jpg

Well, technically both. I am into local eating and the idea of having a pet that provides food is awesome.

It would be AWESOME if you could go to Nava's Swap. https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=532610

I'm sure you will find all you ever wanted & more there... as well as detailed information from folks who know what they're doing. It'd surely be worth the drive! & if you keep your traveling receipt, you might just win the contest for traveling the furthest!

I saw that swap the day that everyone was leaving to go to it. Ocala is only around three hours away from us. However, we have too much to do this weekend, because I am getting ready to get chickens! We are getting them from Georgia today.

So I have been working to get everything ready for them. And furiously reading up on chicken care. So much for doing research first. The lure of the chickens was too strong. My flock will consist of a buff orphington, an easter egger, and a bantam barnevelder.

Hi all! I am a newbie here, and I am from Okeechobee, FL! (South FL) My husband & I are new to raising chickens but we are so excited for our babies to grow & start laying! I posted on another thread w/ pics of our babies trying to figure out what we bought & the consensous is that they are EE/barnyard mixtures & we have 4... So far I am loving this site!!

If it doesn't work out, he can still eat him. DD was too scared of him to bring him back home. I didn't meet you there, Stan, did you show up? I got an Appenzellar Spitzersomethin'ornuther Roo. He's scared of me and the hens right now.

So cute tho!

Hello Fellow Florida Chicken lovers...

I did an intro on the new members page but wanted to pop into this thread too and say hello.

I'm Michele and we live in Central Florida or maybe N. Central FL... depending who you ask since I'm right along the line most people use to split those two areas up by. I have two daughters and a wonderful hubby, we are new to chickens we started researching about 4 months ago and have now started getting the breeds we wanted. The girls are doing chicken project books for 4H this year and plan to show their chickens at our county 4H fair. They are also doing books on hatching eggs so we have an incubator as well.

So far we've gotten 4 blue Silkies ranging in age from 8-12 wks, 2 splash Silkies 13 wks, 5 MF d'Uccle's 4 pullets 1 cockeral, and a breeding pair of Silver Laced Polish. The girls are LOVING their chickens and I've fallen for them too! Hubby is slowly falling for them but it's harder since he's been building all the coops/runs and conditioning cages!!

In the incubator are 12 Houdan eggs that are set to hatch the 10th it's our first ever hatch and we got shipped eggs so I'll be happy if we just end up with one or two chicks. So far eight look great and three are questionable but the girls don't want to throw them out yet since we aren't sure. I'm praying we don't have an exploding egg in the bator.
