Is it my imagination or do there seem to be more than the usual amount of mosquitoes still around for this late date in the year? I mean, it's NOVEMBER for cryin' out loud, shouldn't they have gone dormant already? They also seem to be more persistant, insistant, loud, & irritating than ever before. Perhaps they're still thriving because of the heavy rains we had recently.
There was recently a news story about an influx of "giant mosquitos" invading b/c of all those storms a few weeks back.
Soooo... has anyone had any vulture issues? This morning I have one perched on a dead palm outside. I refuse to get rid of the dead palm, even though I've also seen a hawk up there. The majority of the time there are woodpeckers on it.
Anyway, pretty sure it's a turkey vulture & from what I've read, vultures will sometimes attack sick or young animals. Going to shut the coop for now.

NOT your imagination! First time ever I've had to ask mosquito control to come spray and I've lived in Florida my whole life. I guess they sprayed because there are less but still can't go outside without constant swatting. I cant' enjoy my chickens right now!
And here I thought your mosquito problems was from when my dad came up here to NJ to bring home a boat and he brought all our mosquitos back to FL
Ours were really bad this year too. Sooooo much rain. We've had west nile virus found in some of the horses around here too. Luckily it's colder now and the mosquitos are gone for now.
