I have 2 broody bantams, set one last night with 6 Magpie Duck eggs, and tonight I gave the other 2 Embden goose eggs. If all goes well the ducklings should hatch April 3-4, and the goslings should hatch Easter morning! Please pray for their success.

Patty - Hope the chicks are thriving!

I was so glad to meet you that day you came to the Conservatory. You all will hopefully see more of me and the Spring Hill Conservatory here. As I am the "Marketing Director" I know - dag gum mit - that I need to get the word out to my fellow Floridians.

Plus, heck, I'm just friendly that way....

So My Fellow Floridian Chickeners:

I'm working on a lovely Cochin Color Variety -

Come to my profile to see the first photos I have up. (Please Please Please!)

And I am going to be working on Mille Fleur Seremas.
I have two outstanding roosters. Not just for their Mille Fluer marking but for their stature.
I also have Columbians coming out in quanitity from our parings which produced these Mille Fleurs also ( (A gene I think needed for MFs but all Roos so far...) And possibly a Crele - he's young. And Tolbunt like roos. The Conservatory sold the Blue Columbian pullet Serama before I could lay claim to her. Wonder if the new owner knew what they got?

I need some direction on how to breed for color on the Mille Fleur or I need a Mille Fleur hen, as my boys have it down.

I'll try to get those photos posted.

Widget - The Traveling Hen

My partner has a traveling bantam Cochin Blue Frizzle hen that she travels everywhere with us - including back and forth from the Conservatory when we stay there and back to St Pete. Widget's even been to Savannah. (She rides in the car in a cat carrier which also serves as the place she looks for and tucks into at night wherever she is.)

Well, that is all prologue to say that Widget has just hatched out 8 chicks of mixed breeds, 3 Seramas, 2 Silkies, 3 Modern Games. She laid 19 eggs in said carrier in a wicker bowl in 21 days. Her first eggs ever as she was 5 months to the day when she started laying. We changed out the eggs and she sat, and traveled on them, until they all hatched.

It's been a week today, and my partner, Soule, who works from home, never has the hen and chicks less then 3 feet away from her. For her part, Widget, who has always been very attached to Soule, is now teaching the babies to come sit and run all over "grandma".

She is taking toooooons of photos (Thank goodness for digital!) and hopes to make a book about the traveling hen.

Ciao for now. Stay tuned for those updates.
