FLORIDA!!!!!ALWAYS SUNNY SIDE UP!!!

Not to be out done. The Brown Leghorns checking out the new nest boxes. Later I found the rooster nesting in it.

edited to ad: I think I'll call him George you know after Boy George. They're both colorful characters.

It fits him. He is one flashy fella. I don't know if I will ever get used to white ears on chickens. They look odd to me.

That looks to be a really good pullet!!! Hope you got a few more like her. If so, you have a very good start. Your pics taught me to be a lot more patient before getting rid of roosters. He is gone, and there will be no more of those babies. ......stan
Argh! Say it isn't so Stan. That pullet looks as good as some of the pictures I have seen of Australian birds. We definitely have to breed these youngsters when they get old enough. Stan, I am really glad you shared this (even though I am heartbroken). We have learned to save a cock until we see how the offspring will turn out. Maybe you can work with the person who bought him to make more. You didn't eat him, did you?

Hi guys!

I have been "flocklessly fumbling toward feathered friends" for a few months now. I screwed up and added two new babies to my original two that were very healthy and beautiful, and ofcourse, they all ended up with respiratory issues.

Those were my first babies, and they were all super friendly and I was definitely attached.

I then made the decision that I would incubate my own eggs for the first time ever. I ordered a dozen eggs from LuckyPickens (BYCer). Bought myself a little giant foam incubator, and we are soon going into lockdown on 4th of July night!

I am definitely having fun with my new hobby. This BYC board is just an amazing place for knowledge and friendship. There aren't alot of chicken peeps in my area, so it's nice talking chicken with people who don't think I am crazy. lol

Well, just thought I would share some of the excitment unfolding this week.

fingers crossed I will once again have real live chickens to pluck around with in the garden. I have pics in my profile of the incubating process. I hope to be posting pics of live chicks by this time next weekend!

Thanks everyone for your advice. You confirmed what I was thinking. I was afraid I was being too quick to condemn him for being a rooster. He is gone...I gave him, with full disclosure, to an experienced breeder near me (who will likely stew him) & I managed to bring home 3! new birds. How could I see all those beautiful birds and refuse

This is my new Andalusian hen:

Here is my new dark Cornish hen:

and...my new rooster! An ameraucana? an EE? I saw so many birds yesterday I can't remember-LOL!

The birds are very nice so far even though they are in birdy jail (Isolation) for a while. I will have to pick up some mealworms so they know who has the good stuff-LOL!

Thanks again for all your advice )
My advice? Eat him or give him to someone who will. DO NOT sell/give him away without telling the buyer/taker the TRUTH. You don't want to endanger someone else, especially a kid.
There are TONS of roosters out there just waiting for a great home like yours.

Cindy I think you made the right decision. I love Andalusians, beautiful birds. I have never met one, so you will have to let me know what you think after you have had her for a while. Mealworms will definitely help you make friends a little faster.

IT's not easy, but you made a good decision. Good luck with your beautiful new birds. Funny how we get rid of one and get 3 more? That's Chicken Math, welcome to it!

Hey everyone!

I haven't been on in a few weeks but I have a suprise!

We are now the proud family of 6 White Leghorns and 2 Quails!

Took the kids to the swap in Highlands City and boy was that a mistake :) They fell in love with the chicks so I got the whole bunch....chicken math :) Bought an awesome homemade emergency pen that easily converted into a coop. They are still itty bitties so it's the perfect size and has room to expand on once they get bigger. I made sure to only get chicks/quails that were all raised together from the same breeder. All came from The Quail House :)
