There is a bulge under the neck of one of my Welsummers...Its like a sack of fluid....Is this a syst or is this the gizzard ?None of my other chicks have this...They are 3 weeks old but the welsummers are bigger than the rest...They are on chick starter ,grower and she eats and drinks and acts like nothing is wrong...Do they need grit now?Is this normal or should I get her checked out?Thankyou...

could be the crop, if your looking straight at the chicks face is it on the left side on the chest? if so it's the crop. I have 2 chicks that are 3 weeks and their crops look huge after foraging with mom all day.

the crop is where the food your chick eats goes to first after they swollow, when they eat the food it goes into the crop and the grit they eat helps to grind it up before it goes to the stomach. because they don't have teeth to do it with. as long as your feeding chick feed only they don't need grit. heres a link to chicken anatomy,

Ok... Thankyou... This sounds like it because it is right under her on her neck...Thanks again this a great place.

I'm glad somebody asked this question, I was kinda freaking out that my chicks have neck lumps. Good to know it is normal!

I have been researching and then it clicked to come on here b/c (DUH!) you guys have all of the answers!!! I feel so much better and will be heading out to their house shortly to check her again. Phew!!!
