Hello,

I just noticed my chooky with fly strike.

I've cleaned the area just underneath her vent and taken all the maggots off, checked over the last 5 hours and no maggots have reappeared. It's cleaned thoroughly and I've put a poultice of sugar and manuka honey on, which has dried the edge a bit.

She is eating and talking and reasonably perky. But, she did have a lash egg that was stuck and only got that out this morning which immediately made her feel better than before.

So I dont know if her being a little jaded is because of the stuck egg or this fly strike.

Do I need a vets visit? As my usual vet isn't available until next week.

Any tips on how to proceed would be really helpful.

Many thanks.

Do you have any pictures? I might soak her again one or two more times since maggots can hatch out for a day or so. Apply antibiotic ointment or petroleum jelly to her vent area. Giving her a human calcium tablet once a day for a week, may help her pass any other eggs or lash material.

Thank you for your response. It's definitely drier than this morning. The crystals you may see around her feathers are little bits of sugar and there's a black patch beside her vent, no maggots were there.
