Flying squirrel in the BED!

Definitely a flying squirrel and not a sugar glider. No nearby neighbors to lose a pet, and we're not in Australia

We let him out a little while ago. He shot up a tree and then did his gliding-thing from that tree to another about 100 feet away!

...now I just hope there aren't any squirrel raisins in the bed tonight...

We have a very large population of the Southern Nocturnals in our woods. When we have the spot lights up so we can work in the garden in the `cool' (relatively speaking) of the night from June-August, we'll see these guys gliding by, they are fearless. On more than one occasion we've watched them `outmaneuver' Barred owls on the hunt. If you have them, you'll hear them above the sounds of frogs and cicadas, they make very high pitched, short duration, peeps and whistles.

If they found a way into the house they would be hunted down by the cats or us (electrical wiring/need to keep tooth length under control/gnaw, gnaw, gnaw - not a good outcome).
