Hi,
Does anyone else have a fly problem in the duck pen? My little flock has a 8x5 pen they stay in when we are at work (usually a couple hours in the afternoon and then overnight, let out in the morning). About half of it is dirt with the other half being a raised platform and a "A" frame nest/night house. They have a water bowl that is dumped (drains down hill away from the pen). I hose the platform every other day and I also spray the dirt part down to help break up the poo and drain it away. The problem is we have a LOT of flies in there. I thought that the ducks would eat the flies?? they don't seem to be eating them. Anyone know of any duck safe fly control??? I have a fly strip in there but it is not working. We are getting a stall mat to put on the dirt side of the pen and plan on using the wood pellets or pine shavings on top to prevent feet from being burned on it and absorb some of the water. This is their pen

Just quickly going to Bing I found these http://www.valleyvet.com/c/farm-ranch-supplies/poultry-health/poultry-fly-insect-control/fly-insect-traps.htm Tractor Supply carries them too. I use them and they really do help.

Vanilla scented Christmas tree shaped air fresheners. Hang them up where they can't get wet. It really works.

Thank you! I got a fly trap and will try the basil. Prefer the natural easy if possible have top consider my mini horse as well. :)

I ordered fly predators this season and haven't seen one fly. Can't remember the name of the place where I ordered them from and I'm not at home to check but if you google natural fly control you should find some web sites. The place I used sends me the parasite for the fly based on how many animals you have.
