Flystrike - Questions about flock of 2 and isolation

Third day update: my poor hen seemed to have turned a corner! Only 4 or 5 larvae found this morning during her wash out. She’s up on her feet and wolfing down a scrambled egg. I cannot believe it. I finally have wound pics too. Still seems like a lot to recover from but what a difference 12 hours made.

Let me know if anyone really wants to see the wound to give me thoughts. Seems so gross to post…
Yes, you can post the photos of the wounds.
This is the ER forums, so photos of gross things are required:D

I'm glad to hear that she has improved overnight!

About 2” by 2.5” I’d say - quite deep. I’ve been trying to remove as much necrotic tissue as possible when we wash but don’t want to get too aggressive.

I made a saline solution for my hen and put it in a squirt bottle, and just used that as the daily wash after the initial soapy cleansing. That way we did not have to physically scrub her, which we felt would be too painful. Her wound was high up on her back though, so I did not have to worry about fecal contamination. After the daily saline flush we gooped her up good with the Neomycin, then sprayed her thoroughly with the Veterycin gel.

I’ve been trimming feathers to keep the area as clear as possible to get the vetracyn and soapy water in. How far down can I cut them?
I like @BigBlueHen53 idea of using a squirt bottle to help flush that out daily.
Keep the tissue moist with your ointment, debriding is ok, but I agree with you not to get too aggressive with that. A lot of times that will start sloughing off on it's own.

@cherrynberry has good tips too! She's been through this before, did a nice job taking care of her hen.

Thank you all! I switched to a more targeted flush tonight. Found one larvae. Will add the pain meds tomorrow too. Update below.
