Let me know if anyone really wants to see the wound to give me thoughts. Seems so gross to post…

Third day update: my poor hen seemed to have turned a corner! Only 4 or 5 larvae found this morning during her wash out. She’s up on her feet and wolfing down a scrambled egg. I cannot believe it. I finally have wound pics too. Still seems like a lot to recover from but what a difference 12 hours made.

Yes, you can post the photos of the wounds.Let me know if anyone really wants to see the wound to give me thoughts. Seems so gross to post…
Cut them enough, just do not cut too near her wound obviously. She will grow them back when she molts. Do you have pain killer FREE neosporin?I’ve been trimming feathers to keep the area as clear as possible to get the vetracyn and soapy water in. How far down can I cut them?
View attachment 2833122 About 2” by 2.5” I’d say - quite deep. I’ve been trying to remove as much necrotic tissue as possible when we wash but don’t want to get too aggressive.
I like @BigBlueHen53 idea of using a squirt bottle to help flush that out daily.I’ve been trimming feathers to keep the area as clear as possible to get the vetracyn and soapy water in. How far down can I cut them?
Great idea. Will add starting in the morning.Cut them enough, just do not cut too near her wound obviously. She will grow them back when she molts. Do you have pain killer FREE neosporin?
Thank you all! I switched to a more targeted flush tonight. Found one larvae. Will add the pain meds tomorrow too. Update below.I like @BigBlueHen53 idea of using a squirt bottle to help flush that out daily.
Keep the tissue moist with your ointment, debriding is ok, but I agree with you not to get too aggressive with that. A lot of times that will start sloughing off on it's own.
@cherrynberry has good tips too! She's been through this before, did a nice job taking care of her hen.
