I've searches around and seen that a few people do fodder for their quail here. Is this something they can eat day 1? I got some ready, but I also have Turkey starter as a backup.

Also, I'd love to here from those that do fodder, what all they put in it for quail. I got barely, sunflower, safflower, peas, radish, and various beans I can mix, and I'm open to other ideas too.

Today is lockdown, day 14 (zero as start day), and I'm so excited I could die! 42 out of the 60 I started with appear to be viable still. I lost a few among various stages of life and realized they went bad when the air cells got huge, a side from about 6 that went bad very early on due to the air cells attaching weirdly. It's my first time doing quail, so even if I get 25% I'll be happy.

Congratulations on your upcoming hatch!

When they are brand new, you'll want to stick with the turkey starter and add a chick vitamin mix to their water to build up probiotics.

I don't give my chicks anything different until I've also introduced them to the sandbox because they need grit to grind down the green matter. That happens for me at about week 2.

I grow a lot of kale, so I attach a leaf to the inside wall of the cage (so it doesn't get fouled up) and they love it. I also have a quail tractor for some of my birds and they like grass. I'm sure they'd like the more delicate fodder like alfalfa or clover sprouts, maybe the pea greens or barley. However, I don't know if they'd like the beans.
