"Following" someone

My profile shows that I'm following you, it doesn't show that you're following me. It's set to only notify me on the site, not by e-mail, but I didn't spot any notifications/alerts. I wonder where they should appear?

This is not available. Really, as has already been pointed out, following is simply subscribing, and makes it convenient for someone to see what a particular person has posted. This is not something new, it's just more convenient. You can easily be followed from your profile, anyway. All your posts, and threads started, are available there to everyone. (There is evidently a way to subscribe to someone via RSS feed as well, though this is beyond my knowledge.)

You can find out if someone is following you but only if you are following them also. On your Profile page and in the box where it shows the people you follow there is a link that says "View All". Click on this and if you have a mutual follower it will show. Folks who follow you but you don't follow them won't show.

Seriously, thanks for explaining things to us. I always wondered why threads pop up that I had never looked at.

I follow people when they have a breed I am interested in obtaining. It's a lot easier to click "follow" than it is to rely on my memory!
