Food allergies

Coconut and shellfish, which will only pose a problem if I need a CT scan with contrast....

I have adult onset almond allergy...
other than the standard pennicillin allergy, I've never been allergic to anything.

I've eaten almonds all my life. One day I ate three and my eyes swelled shut, toungue swelled, hands and feet swelled, rash, tchy hives everywhere.
When it started I realized it was an allegic reaction and I ate three Benidryl right away.
At the hospital they almost did a trachiotomy (where they open your throat so you can breathe) but the benydryl I took and the eppi shot they gave me started working and I could still breathe sort of OK.

until then I never realized how many things I LOVE to eat have almonds, almond paste, flour, or extract in it.

Super Bummer.
Anyway, I feel your pain

Ask your doctor about hydroxyzine, my DD uses it as a preventative, it works faster and better than Benadryl for her. If you don't know, the capsules that benadryl is in...has MSG in the capsule. DD can't take meds in a capsule at all for that reason, they're processed. IF she uses benadryl, it's the liquid that we use.

I always take the liquid- keep it in the house in case the little ones need it too. I think it's a must-have for any medicine cabinet

The capsules are good for dogs that get bee stings too.

Anything with tree nuts here (almonds, pecans, cashews, etc). Peanuts are ok though. If I eat a nut, nut oil, or something even processed on the same equipment as them I'll have a reaction. I have to carry benedryl and an epi-pen in my purse. My throat and eyes swell shut within an hour and I go into anaphylactic shock if I contact a nut directly. Even touching nut oil will give me hives and have my face breaking out for a week. Simple things such as dried apples, gingerbread cookies, and even some fancy chocolates have sent me to the ER. I have to be super carefull eating at restaurants.

I've also had adult onset reactions to things like Neosporin antibiotic salve. I can't touch that stuff now without breaking out in hives. The generic triple antibiotic salve doesn't cause a problem. Wierd...
