Food/Feed grade Diatomaceous Earth for chicks?

I have some Food grade DE and have two very specific questions. Can you expose your 4-5 week old chicks to it (they were brooded outdoors since 1 day old)? That makes me believe that they may have bug issues here in Florida, but I can not see any yet. Can I make them a dust bath area inside the coop with the DE? It has been raining for 5 days straight and they are cooped-up.

If you dont see any bugs then wait .. Hold off a while I am in Fl and have had 5 days of rain with you.. I have had my chickens out since they were chicks and dont seem to have any problems yet.. I just started giving DE in there food and I sprinkled if around in the coop...But my youngest is 8 weeks old..and oldest 19 weeks old.. I give it to them to keep the flys away it works great...
