food, glorious food! (starter v. grower)

So I've been feeding our babies starter mash (medicated) from Universal Feeds - Poultry. It has 21% protein and the babies just love it. I switched Fitz over to a layer crumble today with starter on top. Do I need to switch to a "grower" first before the layer crumbles? Is there a difference between a starter and a grower? I assume what I have is not both, since it only says "starter."

Fitz is at just about 6 weeks, has just a teeny bit of feathering left on the head and sides.

You shouldn't give your chickens layer feed until they start laying eggs. Feed a grower type in between the starter and the layer.
