Food grade DE vs regular DE

What is the difference in the two. I have read by some only to use food grade. These birds eat their own poop so I'm sure it isn't food grade. Many folks have regular but the food grade is about 20 miles from me. What say you fine folks?

Thanks dozen. I read that site you directed me to. Thank God I didn't by the non food grade. It would have killed my babies.
