Does anyone know of a place to get food grade DE in the Kansas City area? The TS near us does not carry it, and the clerk looked at me like I'm completely crazy.
I know there are 2 healthfood stores in the area, do you think they would carry it?

Thanks

I finally gave up and just got Stall Dri from Orchlens.. Its 18.00 a 15lb bag but what else can you do..... Its DE and Clay mixed.

Stall dry works well for keeping the coop/stalls dry---as the name says. However it cannot be mixed with feed.... So it depends on what you plan on using your DE for.

You can order it online also...shipping can be expensive...but then again you don't need a lot of DE for the feed...and you can use stall dry in the coop shavings

I don't know anything about Kansas, but I had the same dilemma applied to Chicagoland. I finally decided to buy on-line. I was able to buy a 15 lb bag of bulk Perma-Guard DE from Shadow Ridge Farm for $27 and that INCLUDES shipping! I thought it was a pretty good deal considering I couldn't buy it locally.

Thanks everyone. I ended up picking up some stall dry last night. I mainly wanted it to mix a little with the bedding.

I love this store. My son lives in Olathe and I buy dog food there anytime I get up that way. They are listed on the Perma_Guard site.

Now I have another reason to shop there!

How about a garden center? Make sure that the product is just diatomaceous earth, and doesn't contain any added insecticide.

The stuff sold for gardeners to control soft-bodied insects is the right type for poultry fly and parasite control - it's not the extra-dangerous processed DE that people use for their pools.

mommathea,

I got a 50# bag for $35 plus $29.06 shipping (ouch)
directly from Perma-Gard. The sack came in a cardboard
box. Good thing because UPS tore the box badly.
Shipping cost is based on your distance from them.
Go to http://perma-guard.com/index.html and see what you think.
