Wild Emus at The Lilly Pilly Tree

Pics
Dawn. Limpy Chick Plus is here.

Haystack turned up on her own. We assumed that Bush is sitting. But no, he turned up a little later.

Bush challenged Limpy Chick, but shied away. That's good. At that moment, we could hear two females, one to the north, one to the east. And both Bush and Haystack remained close. So that's at least fifteen emus in play here at present.

From several days ago. This is Bush and Haystack enjoying brief sunshine over in the old sheep yards.

[New custom here at the farmhouse: holidays on warm winter days. We've had days and days and days of steady wind and rain. But at this second it is still and getting warm.]

Bush and Haystack here at dawn. If they are going to breed, they had best get on with it.

Limpy Chick and his clutch well. We can already get to within arm's length of the chicks.

My Finches seem to think it is too cold to bother so far this year too. Mind they are usually more active as it warms up - but nothing at this time is unusual.
Mum's budgies are also very slow to start - as in eggs not being filled by most pairs. Budgies do however usually do a couple of rounds, which allow more chance of chicks as the weather improves.
Great to see some Emu chicks running round.

Five emus here yesterday at dawn dawn. Couldn't even tell who was who.

Today: Undersized Emu is here, with her consort. She is delightful because she always bursts into a jog the moment she knows it's Wheat Time.

It’s not ‘pouring rain and howling wind’ here at present – but pretty close! Supreme Emu is holed up in the little bedroom.

For several days, observations have been very poor. Several days ago, there were five emus enjoying wheat, but we couldn’t tell who was who.

Last night, in deep deep deep dusk, Undersized Emu and some other female were shouting insults at each other – but who is the other female? (We can tell U.E.’s vocalisations.)
