food in the coop

Can i put the food inside the coop ? i was advised not to but i built a great box feeder when i built the coop and seems a shame to waste it

I put my chickens food and water inside their coop. I don't see a reason why you shouldn't. Welcome to BYC by the way!

I also put my food and water inside the coop and have not had any problems. I would just make sure that they don't roost over the food and water or there will be a lot of everything you don't want in them, and I have found that the food should be at about the height of the smallest chicken's back so they don't get their litter in the food and water.

Same as everyone is saying. I always have food, water and grit in the coop. I supply an extra bucket of water in the run. I also add apple cider vinegar to the water. I mix it 1 t. per gallon of water.

What is the vinegar for?

It has to be unfiltered apple cider vinegar, not the clear filtered stuff. It does a lot of good- it keeps the water from getting slimy, and it is very healthy for the birds.
