I have a 5 day old baby chicken that has an obstructed vent. I first thought it was a bad case of pasty butt and soaked several times in water but it did not seem to help. I kept dipping the chicks beak in water to hydrate since it is not eating or drinking. The poor things belly seems enlarged and hard. After searching many threads I decided to see if I could pull some of the blockage out. When I did this, I pulled out several large chunks of hard chick starter. I don't think I got it all though and the chick hasn't pooped since (2 hrs ago). Any advice?

You could try using mineral oil or olive oil to relieve constipation. You might have to use a dropper, because chick will not like it. Just a couple of drops should help. You could also try adding warm water to chick feed,so that it resembles oatmeal.Your little one might need to eat feed this way until better able to digest food. My chicks love it mixed with warm water(I make this mix once a day,the rest of the time they eat reg chick feed) they just gobble it up,especially my silkies. For pasty butt, just put a little bit of vaseline on their bottom, stops poop from sticking to them.
