My girls are about 45days old now, and I'm feeding them this: http://www.tractorsupply.com/en/store/dumorreg;-chick-starter-grower-20%-feed-50-lb I do mix in some grit with that and occassionaly I'll give them some chopped up veggies.

At what age should I switch the food? And what should I switch to---feed, layers, crumbles, pellets, what's the difference? Is it all the same stuff just different form? Or should I just switch to a grower/finisher"? Should there be a mix of all of that?
Any advice is MUCH appreciated

The "shape" of the feed isn't important. The same feed product can be offered by companies in mash, crumbles or pellets. That's the shape, that's all.

Keep them on what you have been feeding. They are used to it and they'll continue to do fine on it all the way until you see that first egg. At that point, you can switch them to Layer, if you wish.

Ok thanks!! I have rhode island reds and a few white chickens (i don't know their breed)...around what age will they start laying eggs?
