NO nothing different in the mouth in fact, I have been taken a qtip and scrapping the top of her mouth to get the food off, and there is quite a bit. But once done nothing looks abnormal, I even smelt it no odors. But it happens constantly. I cleaned her last night by this morning she had chunks of food stuck up there. Never had a baby chick do this?Have you looked in her mouth to see if there is any abnormalities going on in the roof of the mouth? Any defects or issues that you can see? Any infection or issues? I wish I had some quality advice for this but I've never experienced this myself. I'd look for a defect or reason the food is doing this and see if I can spot any abnormalities going on in the mouth. Other wise hopefully someone else might know how to help. I wish I could have been more help but if you don't notice any abnormalities I can't imagine why else this would be happening? Could it by chance be the food itself that's causing this? Perhaps experiment with a different brand and see if the issue is still present? If it were my flock I might try that. I wish you the best and hope you resolve this problem.
OK, I don't think it's Fowl Pox but a Definite Possibility of Candidiasis. Yeh, I'm going to have to go with the THRUSH, so what is the treatment for this? The problems could be either the wet form of fowl pox (diphtheria) or Candidiasis (Moniliasis) often know as thrush. In fact it could very easily be a complex of both these pathogens AND something else.
It is generally considered incurable. I never had any success doing so but tried one last time on a $200 Partridge Wyandotte bantam hen. She ended up dieing from thrush after another $300 of medication was administered. The treatment we used was prescribed by a real poultry vet (not some city avian vet that can't figure out why parrots eat their own feathers) who worked for a pharmaceuticals company.Yeh, I'm going to have to go with the THRUSH, so what is the treatment for this?
If you think it is thrush(candidiasis)and nothing is working, try monistat tablet. Tablet contains miconazole nitrate, same ingredient used to treat thrush in babies. Cut the 3 tablets into 1/3 (end up with 9)give 2 times a day until thrush is gone. This is the same treatment for sour crop, also yeast.Right now, I have Oxine in there water and I have been giving the one chick episom salt mixed with water. When I give her the salt water it does seem to help break up the food on top of her mouth, however I did notice bubbling noises coming from her crop each time.
