I am sure someone here has a remedy for keeping the pine shavings out of the food, water. I have the feed trough sitting on a 2x4 and the water on a 2x6 figuring the 1 1/2" rise would be enough but not true. I am not to concerned about the feed but the water gets full of poop and shavings. I am having to change the water 3+ times a day. All the waterers at the feed stores in my area are basically built the same way. Please set me straight. John

I trained the chicks from day one to use a large rabbit water bottle. 1/10 chicks or so.

However, now all you can do is raise the bottle. I find that if you can get the rim of the food and water dish to be the height of their backs, there is alot less waste and contaimation. Good luck!

The person who gave me the chick waterer had attached a cord to it with some cement. I tied it to the top of the brooder and have it hanging just low enough for them to drink. It has helped the pine shavings in the water situation tremendously.
