FoodSaver questions

I've read through the threads on the subject of FoodSavers. But, I still have a few questions. I have a very old model that we purchased from a yard sale for $5.00. It has served us well for 3 years and was a good way to see if this gadget was something we needed. We soon found that we did indeed use it often and especially like the results of freezing our own chickens.
This machine has pooped out on us and we've been looking for a new one.
I've found many bad reviews on the newer models of the FoodSaver brand. I have read many good ones, too. Our budget doesn't allow for one over $100. There is one on sale locally that looks good. I'd appreciate your thoughts on it.
It's the FoodSaver model V2440 for $89.94.
I did find the same model at Sam's Club for $99.00. Sam's offers a 3 year maintenance agreement/warranty for about $15.00. We don't usually purchase these, but with what I've read maybe that would be a good thing to get. I need to print out a copy of the guidelines - too small of print to read on the monitor. (Maybe they don't want us to read it.)

So, what do you think of this model and the price?
Have you purchased a maintenance agreement through Sam's Club and were you satisfied if you needed repairs or a replacement?

Thanks so much for your help.

Sorry, but I can't help you with the model you are listing. Mine is a V840, 2-3 years old, still works fine, it was a gift from my son so I don't know how much it cost.

As to the maintenance agreement: I usually don't get them; years ago I got one for my refrigerator from Sears and it was still going strong when I sold the house 13 years later with no cause for service or parts.

Most folks that I know that use a vacuum food saving system have bought a FoodSaver. If you can get one for less than $100, then go for it and spend the money saved by not getting the maintenance agreement on rolls of bag material to cut and make your own.

peepless, thanks for replying to my question. I don't remember seeing that model, but I will check it out.
We haven't bought the service agreements in the past. My sister has purchased them a few times and has used it for a couple of appliances.

Thanks

I have the regular old white foodsaver -- I think the one I saw recently at Sam's was stainless steel and fancier. Mine is three years old and I love it. I have had no issues. I freeze whole chickens, burger, pork chops, green beans, etc. and have never had a problem. I would not buy the service agreement.
