FoodSaver Systems.. Anyone ever used them or have one?

The V3425 is on sale for $99 but the V2244 is on sale for $59! I am going to do some research and comparison to see which is better.

Ok looked and it appears that the $99 is more digital and has a marinade infusion setting which I am not sure about. It also says it has a cutter as well. This is the description of each one.

V2244 Vacuum Sealer
Sleek and compact, with an extra-wide sealing strip for strong, reliable seals. A latch-and-lock manual operation and an easy-to-clean drip tray make operation and maintenance easy. Starter kit includes one 11" heat-seal roll, three quart- and two gallon-sized heat-seal bags and an accessory hose.

V3425 Vacuum Sealer
A fully automatic vacuum-packaging system in a space-saving upright design. It features built-in roll storage, a bag cutter, canister-seal mode and marinade-infusion mode. A liquid-detection feature prevents spills. Includes one 11" heat-seal roll, three quart-size heat-seal bags, two gallon-size heat-seal bags and an accessory hose.

I am wondering if it's worth the $40 extra for these other features. The V2244 seems to me to be most manual and I am not sure if I would do well with that.

Cacky- I looked too and was wondering about the extra features as well. We don't eat enough beef to warrant and infusion setting and DH only likes chicken one way - seasoned with lemon pepper and cooked on the Geo. Foreman Grill! I was thinking the $59 one might be more my style. It's just the 2 of us and I only have a small garden and the few items I pick up at the Farmer's Market. Let me know if you find out anything else about them. You've got me interested.

Tried calling Cabela's and the lady just read me the descriptions that I could read myself off the internet so I called FoodSaver directly. They both mainly function the same way. The V3524 just has a deal that holds the bag roll and cuts it for you. On the other you cut them yourself. The 2244 has separate vacuum and seal options. The lady said they are running a promotion right now where you get the machines plus like $60 worth of bags for $79.99 with free shipping. The promotion will go until 6/15 while supplies last. After talking to her I think the 2244 is the way to go unless you are wanting to do the marinade infusion or canister sealing. HTH

We have one!! Hubby likes to put steaks in it...and marinate them...only takes about 15 minutes!!! We also have the canister that he marinates in under 10 minutes with!!!

You might check Costco too. That's where we bought ours a few years ago, and they sell the bags too. Every once in a while I'll have a seal fail, but if I catch it in the freezer in time, I just eat that package. I really use it a lot, but it would be too expensive to put up all of the game we hunt that way, so we just use plastic wrap and foil on that. Lasts forever too if you put enough on to really keep the air out.

My foodsaver does have the marinating container, and I use it every once in a while. It does seem to work nicely, especially if I forget to marinate the night before and throw it all in there an hour before I cook.

We have two of them!

Started with the original flat model, well last fall while at a poultry show there was a Goodwill right next door. DH ended up finding the upright version Brand New in the box for only $15!!

He just love those things. So for Christmas I found someone on Ebay selling the marinating dish, a round dish and several boxes of bags, ended up getting for a decent price and gave it to him for Christmas from the kids.

When we splurge on steak he loves to use his marinator.

I have one of the originals.. over 25 years old now .. we used it for packing salmon my husband caught while commercial fishing in AK many years ago.. still using it today.. it could use a tune up but its now old enough I can't find anyone that has parts for one as old as mine so It may be retired and a new one replacing it this year. I love it!

I think I am going to do it. If you call FoodSaver directly they have a great deal going on right now. I just keep thinking of all the things I could use it for and how much money it would save me on fruits and veggies! I could save a ton alone on the meat as it seems alot of it goes to waste around here because it gets freezer burnt before we are able to use it!!

It may not be an option for you, but I've started raising a pig or two a year as well as the chickens. That's where all of my freezer burned stuff goes. Since I've been pigless all winter, I've kind of been hoarding it. Of course, I still buy pig food, but if I can find a large enough supply of slop-type stuff, I can cut that down.

Although waitresses really look at you funny when you ask for a to-go box for the potato skins and shrimp shells. I get a kick out of that.

Our covenants out here don't allow for any split hooved animal otherwise I would raise one for meat. Am thinking about getting a cow or two and putting it out on grandma's pasture to raise for beef.
