One of our chicks foot is swollen, bloody, and sorta black/blue? What could be wrong?
He/she is on aspen bedding, acting normal (eating, drinking), but is hopping around on one foot.

Thanks!

You need to be more specific; namely species, age, housing (number of birds), type of feed, etc.

2-3 week old bobwhites and one has a bloody foot? I think we can figure that out, but just for fun tell me what kind of lighting you're using, how warm the brooder is, how big the brooder is, and things of that nature.

I am using a red light, 95, 2x4.
They are on aspen bedding.

They are at 95* at 2-3 weeks??? That's a little hot. Lower the heat, sounds like they are pecking. Did you check to make sure the little one doesn't have a hair or piece of something cutting off the blood circulation?

This is the whole aggression thing we speak about. Are there any older birds? Oh, and 95* is pretty hot.

Great suggestions

I would also add in maybe to switch the red bulb to a white light if you can't lower the heat (a 75 watt bulb can suffice)

She told me it's wired to a thermostat so that shouldn't be a problem. Oh, and bobwhites become cannibalistic when it is too hot.
