Hi all.

A couple of days ago I took some birds into my care from someone who is no longer unable to look after them. One of the hens who we believe is a white sussex/silkie cross breed around 6 years old hops around on one leg all the time and keeps the other one held up high against her feathers. After I picked her up I found it to be in a very bad way, with some kind of growth/infection. Can anyone possibly provide a diagnosis or suggest any treatments to try? I hope something can be done to help the poor girl

Thanks in advance.

I would check her for scaly leg mites and bumblefoot, but yes it looks infected. You may need to soak it in some epsom salts, and clean it up. Then maybe more pictures for more advice. Bumblefoot affects the pad and has a black dot in the middle of a swollen foot pad. If it is that, the infection needs to be cut out. Nustock is a sulfur based cream that works on a lot of infections.
