foot pecking

Once this habit is learned, it is very difficult to curb.

I have tried all kinds of methods to stop this issue...all the sprays, lotions and even pine tar and found that oddly enough, (and this is for DC,) LOL, that blu-kote DOES work! I don't like medicating anything either, but blu-kote stopped my quail AND chickens from toe picking. I have it in both areas of my poultry yard and my chickens and quail have permanent purple feet! The moment the stuff wears off, there they are toe picking again! Drives me batty!

So I keep a healthy supply of Blue-kote cans and latex gloves to keep my hands clean and the feet from being bitten! Ha!

Today i let her in with my other quail and she seems to be not so interested in feet, i did however hang up a load of veg and herbs for them and hung up a little pot of crushed mealworms for her to keep her amused, i saw the odd peck here and there but nothing like before so i'm hoping that it's going to last. I will still get some anti pecking products though, as you never know what might happen. Thanks for all your' advice i appreciate it.
