I have a RIR Rooster that has been limping. The only problem I could see upon inspection is he had a ingrown nail. I took the nail out and soaked his foot in peroxide then wrapped it up. I did this for about 3 days before putting him back in the run. Now he’s limping worse when he’s up but mostly stays lying down. I haven’t had this problem before. What do I need to do to get the big guy back up and healed? Please help.

Please attach an up close picture of his foot and leg. Also please attach a video of him trying to walk. This helps us tremendously!

I know the problem. His spurs are to long. Take a file and file his nails. That should help.

Thank you for the pictures. It looks like a couple things are going on with your poor boy.
1. He needs a pedicure!!!
2. Soak his feet in tepid Epsom Salts for 15-20 min. Really clean all the leg scales off with a soft tooth brush and remove all the build up of debri on his feet and toenails.
Make sure you dry his feet well. You can also bring him inside a dog crate and let him rest on a towel. Feed him some scrambled egg and add 1/4 to 1/2 tab of crushed up Vitamin B Complex to it. This will help boost his immune system and helps with the healing of skin rashes & skin irritations.
3. Once the feet are dry and cleaned, you'll be able to view the area where you removed the nail. (Ouch!) Clean that area daily for about 7 -10 days with Vetericyn. It's a Microbial. Do not use H2O2 aka: Hydrogen Peroxide because it kills off the good bacteria that promotes wound healing.
You may have to wrap it to keep it clean.
4. His spurs are very long, take a nail file or a rotary tool (dog) and file those spurs down including his toe nails being careful not to make them too short and bleed. If you do, have Quick-Stop handy because it will bleed profusely. ( and you'll feel terrible)
5. While you have his feet & legs all clean, go ahead and message some Vaseline onto his legs. This helps rid any mites that maybe hiding and message will soften the skin tissue and promote circulation. Always message an extremity in one direction toward the heart. (Upward in this case)
6. If you add any Triple antibiotic oint, do not use any with pain relief in it. While the Lidocaine in it is not toxic to humans, it is very toxic to our beloved chickens.
Hope this helps to get him up walking straight and proud once again.

Can you get a photo of him standing so we can see the front of his legs too?
Current photo of what the toe looks like since you took the nail out.

Agree with treatment and care outlined in Post# 9
