FEET TROUBLES:

Blackie my Dominique has been limping more & more on her left foot (shown here) for a few wks now. I'm assuming its bumblefoot b/c I've already done 4 bumblefoot surgeries on my 2 white leghorns (1 of which is no longer w/us b/c of a fox), but Whitey is the one we do have & I'll post pics of her below in a min.

1.) Blackies foot isn't really swollen & you can't tell from the top, but the buttom is like seperated, her foot obviously looks kinda like a "butt"! lol, its truely seperated & the right side is soft & squishy like its supposed to be, but the left part as u can see if harder & rough, with a spot that's almost like a bumblefoot scab but I'm not quite sure...its different from what I'm used to seeing.

2.) These are whitey's feet, they're both partially swollen, but 1 of them's more swollen on top than the other 1.

See here...(ok 1st of all I know I look like a dork...) (2nd of all, I know her feet are pretty dirty)... We've done surgery on both of her feet already bout 3 months ago - & we were HOPING that we got all of the infection out...but I don't think we did, she's just started limping a tid bit (barely noticeable though).
She's gotten scabs on both bottoms b/c we cut the bumble infection out a while ago on both & they healed up pretty good & scabbed over; but since they scabbed over, NOW is it going to ALWAYS LOOK like she has bumblefoot? b/c those scars will always be there? I know we'll prolly have to re-do the surgery on at least 1 of her feet sooner or later as much as I'm dreading it (even though she's a good patient, but obviously its a brutal surgery, all that cutting/blood). I always hold her & my bro does the cutting b/c he's almost got his master's in BIO & he's good w/a scalpel; that's what's going on w/2 of my chicks.

3.) Here is Bluefoot :) She's my fav. RIR hen, the only laying RIR hen of course. I find her limping pretty badly on her left foot (the one w/out the blue ring)...her left foot is pretty swollen & I'm hoping it's just a sprain or strain & its not broken. Her feet are obviously yucky & dirty too but she keeps pecking at her toe also & holds her foot up every chance she gets, its not bumblefoot b/c there's no black dot.

So there's my 3 chicken feet issues.

Nope no wire, and bluefoot hurt her foot in the coop/pen area, we usually let them freerange but haven't lately b/c its been so hot, but here's a pic of their coop, its wood mostly & its been sanded down really good.

Bluefoot might of just jumped off the roost wrong that morning or something, or tripped on a rock outside who knows, I know they can get bumblefoot from just about anything even a splinter, so yea its kinda hard to prevent I guess.

If repeated surgery isn't getting you anywhere, you might want to try TricideNeo soaks instead. It sometimes worked (did for me, and hen is still free of bumblefoot one year later). You can search other threads for info on this, or PM me if you'd like to know how I did it.

Spreading some soft, absorbent litter (such as pine shavings) in your run and coop, would be a good idea. It looks like you have bare, compacted ground there in your run. If so, that's a relatively hard surface where poop can build up. Seems like a set up for bumblefoot.

Yea your right about the compact dirt in their coop, although we do try to keep the buildup from occuring in their roosting corner...but we do actually have almost a whole bag of pine shavings from raising our baby wynadottes :) so I'll throw alot of that around in there. Yea I would definately like to soak her daily even or more if I have to rather than open her up again b/c that surgery is so brutal to do & I'm sure she thinks so too. She would be reallly easy to soak, I can hold her upside down in my arms like a baby so that would be no problem. Now soaking for blackie I'm not so sure lol, it might help tame her a bit though or it could go the other way. I bought this stuff from the farm store it came in a lil yellow box & its an all around medicine supposedly for scaley feet, chicken illnesses, etc, its a liquid, I'd have to go downstairs to see the name of it though.

Thanks though
