I was trying to cut out some Bumblefoot on my chicken, and I guess I cut an artery. It’s been bleeding for 30ish minutes with no signs of stopping. I’ve been putting even pressure on it, and her foot is on an ice pack as well. Is there anything else I can do?

She’s doing better now, after about 45 minutes or so we got it to clot up. She’s been a bit pale today but she is active and even laid an egg. I’ve been giving her electrolyte water.
Sometimes it takes a while to get bleeding stopped.
If it happens again, you can try applying Cornstarch or a little flour to the wound to see if that helps. Blood stop is also available at most feed stores, something to think about keeping on hand.

I hope she's much better today. Keep us posted.

She’s much more alert today. I know about putting flour To stop bleeding, but I Had heard it was only good for superficial wounds and not deep. I’ll keep it in mind for next time. And I go to the feed store today, so I’ll look at some blood stop.
