For anyone who has Rhode Island reds...

We are not sure if my rir is a roo or not. His/her comb is more prominent then the rest of the flock. However I have read that Roos feather slowly and she feathered along with the others. So my question is, does this breed have large combs or is my gal a roo?

I've seen some RIR with pretty big combs. Males combs tend to brighten up a bit fasster than the hens.... not always the case but somethin else to look at...

It doesn't look terribly bright red... still a lil early to tell. It'd be easier if you had other RIR the same age. Different breeds develop at different ages

Its a month old.

It looks like a cockerel to me. The wattles are good size for a month old chick which usually indicates a male.
