I put one row of nesting boxes 4 feet of the ground, and another 2 feet with a few random drawers/crates laying around... the roosts I put in a diagnol fashion. Lowest one 6" of the ground... then 12" over, Another roost 18"of the ground, Another 12" over and 30" of the ground and so on and so forth... I have 8 roosts like that.. They love it because some chickens like to be on the same roost as their rooster, some like to be close to the ground, and some like to go as high as their wings can take them... I have plymouth rock, RIR, And speckled sussex all big birds that have no problem getting to nesting box... Especially with the roosts like that because they can just hop from roost to roost...

Hope this helps

Whew! OK, didn't make too many mistakes. Our boxes are 14 x 14 accessible from 18" and we have roosts around 3 Ft . Will add a training roost and remove later since I won't use the brooder for too long due to our days/nights getting warmer all the time. (Will use a heat lamp should they want it though.) Now I just need my babies to arrive....the 22nd. This will give me time to electrify the heck out of everything. Thanks to everyone.
That should be plenty big enough mine are 10" and all of my birds like it because it is more "Private"

This whole chicken ownership madness is going to be a work in progress, at all times, I can tell

. I am working on electrifying the heck out of everything the next couple of weeks. Then, I will add more roosts using the suggestions. Whew! Thank you BYC members.
