for people who stop hatching in the winter...

The ones I hatched last April still haven't started laying

Thanks!!! It has two sections - one for chicks and one for the ducklings due on 1/1/11. Garage, two heat lamps. DOOOO ITTTTTT. You know you want to.

I have a grow pen in the shed that has 2 sides also and it's covered around the sides with one of those moving blankets and the heat lamps go inside so the heat is contained. Once they get their feathers you can put them out. Thats what I did last year. The ones I have in the house now will go out when they get feathered. I have a spare room I use for the incubators and brooders and they do get a little stinky although I do alot of cleaning it can't be helped. But if you want chickens laying in the spring when people are looking for chicks and hatching eggs it's best to work on it now. You can pick out the ones you want to use and sell the rest.

Alot of people thin down their flocks for winter and are looking for chicks and either almost laying or laying hens. Spring is the time to take advantage of the opportunities of selling eggs and birds.

That and seeing all those little fluffy butts and playing with them during the winter is just fun.

I really love this brooder. The chicks have full run right now, but come 1/1/11 they will not. And they are getting BIG.
