That's exactly it. I know things happen. I don't "blame" them, exactly. But, they take responsibility for their breeder flocks and whether our chicks were infected by egg or hatchery, it doesn't matter to me, it is one in the same. It's not that it happened, it's how they dealt with it, and specifically, how they have dealt with me.
I KNOW for a fact that my report was the first given to MM. They brag on themselves about great customer service, blah blah blah. I EVEN GOT A FOLLOW-UP CALL FROM THE U of MN, wondering how my surviving chicks were doing. Now, that shows someone who cares. A vet professor from the VDL took the time out of his busy day to call me. I know how rediculously busy they are. That is someone who deserves a gold star.
What did I get from MM? Not an email, not a call, not a letter. I spent a lot of money feeding over 90 sick chicks for the first two weeks of their seemingly healthy lives. I spent $72.50 to make sure my other chicks didn't get sick and I passed the info on to MM. Was I offered some free healthy chicks or at least something? Nope. Oh, I suppose you could say I have been able to heat my house with all the dead chicks. Yesterday we popped 5 dead ones in there, today another one, tomorrow I think there with be 3 or 4 more...Plus one for the outdoor wood boiler! I was such a fan of MM. I have bought from them for YEARS and YEARS. I have thought about writing them a letter, but then I thought, well, they certainly know how to get a hold of me if they want to, and they haven't. I doubt if my kind of letter would make their fancy catalog anyway. I don't know how many customers they have, but now I can safely say it is number of customers minus one.
