I too have been hit hard by coons. I am wondering about an automatic door. I am thinking of asking santa for one.

Even after all this time, I've never closed the bobs on my middle flying loft just in case somebody came home.

I feel your pain. When I was a kid, I had a dog who disappeared, later it was a cat. You never stop looking for them.

Even with an auto door, the risk is not removed, though it is minimized some. Coons come out and about in the middle of the day here. We've shot several prowling about mid day. And, my door will occasionally bind up in the channel, on the way up or the way down.

I totally understand and this is why I've been away from outdoor birds for so many years. Some that were extra special went too rapidly to modify how I kept them.

I'm back at it now but scared to free range unless I'm right there.

Enjoy chick plotting this winter. Not sure what your goals are but maybe lazy breeds that don't mind safe run life would help, that's what I chose this time.
