For the Love of Cooper... Devine, Tx.

For how long are you going out of town? Is there a neighborhood adolescent or teenager who mightike to earn a little money looking after him while you are gone? Is he sitting most of the time? Can you set up damp feed and water within his reach and have someone change it out periodically? Is he soiling his feathers? Poor guy. He is beautiful and I hope he recovers soon!

I''m only going to be gone overnight...I called the highschool and leftA msg for the AG teachers, but they haven't called back. I dont really know anyone out here in the sticks personally. OH!! Just had an idea!!! I'll go up to the feedstore tomorrow and put a notice up on the bulliten board....MIGHT work, huh? It's gonna take patience...."Cooper” can’t fin for himself yet. And , though I clean his “bed” daily, he needs a bath Bad!! Silly question, BUT..are chickens SUPPOSED to be bathed? If so, how??

If you do find someone, I would pay them to come over a few times to show they are familiar with all you have to do for him. Have them do his care in front of you.

You may want to make a chicken sling for him to get him upright, where his droppings will fall without soiling himself. Here is a link with pictures where you may click on each one to enlarge:

Unfortunately, my Cooper left me today. I’m devastated, to say the least. Thanks, everyone for your input and help/encouragement during this hard time. I’ve learned that I shouldn’t get so attached, I guess. I’m so sad.

Is your coop secure against further attacks? Your coon will be back, and he most likely has a few groupies. Be sure your coop is secure and they are locked in every night. Chicken wire is not coon proof. So, if your coop has any chicken wire, you will need to replace that with 1/2" hardware cloth.

Done!! I’m on a mission!
