I built 3 using milk crates. They did like them, until they found the joy of a 5 gallon bucket. The weirdo’s lol

We have one hen that uses a bucket in our barn. The bucket sits on the second shelf (about 4' up) and the bucket is half full with 5" Lag Bolts!!!

Lying on lag bolts, now that’s comfort! I can’t even lay in my bed if the sheets are twisted.
