I've been gathering things for a whizbang style plucker and am trying to kind of make do with what is available without buying anything brand new. I have a 1hp 1725 rpm motor, a 2 inch drive pulley and an 11 inch driven pulley. If my math is right, that should gear it down to 313 rpm. Is that too fast?

Maybe. I've read 150 to 300 is the range and folks shoot for around 250. I don't know if 300+ bruises a bird or not. You could try it and see or get a 1.5 inch drive pulley to reduce to 235 RPM.

Thats exactly what I used on mine. It works amazingly well!
