Do you use the yellow sand, which is more cost effective,
but seems to clump more, or do you use the white sand,
which is more expensive, but may not clump as much?
I would be using it in the run area only.

I am interested in the same question....the local mulch, rock. sand yard here just has reddish looking play sand. I ask them about river sand and they looked at me like I was nuts. So it would be helpful to know the best kind everyone is using for the run area. Also do you put landscape fabric under it? I will have hardware cloth fastened to the entire bottom of the run and raised coop and plan to put the sand at least 4 inches deep. Is that deep enough?

It was $3 for a 50lb bag and I bought 10 bags for a 10'x10' run...I had a base down of sand in a tube. This spring i am going to get 10 more bags.
Never payed attention of it clumps or not. this will be the first summer with the run covered

The local mulch/sand/etc. has a one ton scoop of Yellow sand for
$25 or 25 cents for a shovel. Can I take my coal shovel?

DH wants white sand, he doesn't think it will clump as much.
What about you guys that are experienced with sand?

for me it was for drainage

I have clay soil and the water/poop can pound in the run. This becomes a stinky mess. The sand allows water to drain away and the poop to decompose in the sand instead of on top of it.
