For those wanting to be more self sufficient...

I think the gel seems less concentrated than the powder formula. I made it just as the recipe called...Fels Naptha soap, washing soda, and borax. I will keep using it this week and see how I feel. I have 2 teenage boys, plus DH. I made the powder formula for my mom to try and I will ask her how she likes it.

I put a bunch of these recipes on my blog . You all got credit, of course.

My room mate and I had a tortilla press way back when....(50 - 22 = 28 years ago - where did the time go?) The little dough balls went in one at a time and a quick press and we had nice flat tortillas, except I think we maid corn tortillas rather than floour.

This doesn't really count as self- sufficency, but a good way to repel mosquitoes is right in your kitchen, and a lot less harsh on the person....

Vanilla Extract.

Yes, really. I have been using it for years now, as mosquitoes LOVE my skin and i get golf ball sized welts on me when I get bit.
Someone told me about vanilla extract and it is the only thing that works for me..none of the commercial stuff helps.
You can use real or imitation, doesn't matter and I dilute it a bit. The great thing is you can do your whole self, including your face and you will smell great! Do not use it if you are wearing white though, it leaves little brown spots. LOL. I still get bit when I forget though.

How wold you use that Smoky? Dab it in places or spray it all over? How do you use it? I love the way it smells, lol!! If you put it behind your ears you might be beatin off the two legged neck nibblers!!!!

I don't know if anyone knows or not, but there is a website called Freecycle.com
You can go to Freecycle.com and put in your zipcode, or state, or city, or county and it will pull up the nearest Freecycle near you. You can ask for something you need (such as Chicken Pens, or a sofa, or a dresser, etc., etc., and you can also post something you do not use anymore. It works great, and everything posted is 100% free. I have given and gotten a lot of things on Freecycle.com
For example: my freecycle.com is CharltonCountyFreecycle.com Try it and you'll be amazed at what you can recycle.

Oh sorry, I picked up a tiny spray bottle in the travel section at walmart, (where you buy the tiny shampoos and toothpastes) and put it in there. Spray it on.
