Yup, which is why the constant research, observation, testing and why I don't spout-off my recipe on the forum like so many other people who think they've cracked the code and nullified the entire field of study of avian nutrition - I'd never want somebody to take my exact recipe and run with it, thinking that it's perfect. My intent is just to bring some of the obscure "gotchas" to peoples' attention so they don't adversely affect the health of their birds with the best of intentions.

Also, there's this notion of "free choice oyster shell". You've probably heard of it.

I don't use it because it previously had soy and still has corn (no judgement there, it's just how I roll).

Erica - thank you for giving me something to think about with that. I'm going to boost the calcium for the layers, thus making two different recipes now; one for peeps and one for layers. This brings me back to my main point of never ever thinking that you're "finished"...it's a constant evolution.
