Fordice has lost his Cock-a-doodle!

My rooster seems to have a case of laryngitis. It started about two weeks ago. For a while he was not announcing his morning existence at all but has slowly started to get back into it. It's very low and quite. He always had a "broken" cockadoodle to where it was just two syllables but now he sounds like an old man. He is a bantam Cochin and I have no idea how old he is. Is he going to get better?

My white leghorn has always had a low crow. Every other rooster I have is louder than him. I thought it would get louder with age but it didn't.

never heard of a rooster loosing his voice. Sometimes I wish one of my boys would.

If he is very young, it will get better, if he is an adult, I still wouldn't be concerned unless he is acting sick in any other way. As in if he isn't eating or drinking or seems in pain.

Just out of curiosity did he become mute altogether or does he still making his "food" and "danger" noises?

I WISH mine would lose his cock a doodle doo!!! He crows all the time. In the morning, at 6am, he starts...and by 6:15 he will have crowed 28 times. I'm not allowed to have a roo (he was supposed to be a she) and I'm hoping nobody complains, but the nicer weather is coming, along with open windows and I'm a little worried that the chicken police are gonna get me.

(it also doesn't help that I'm only allowed 8 chickens and I have 16...shhhhh)

mine did like a coughing sound after he crowed, i gave him Sulmet and it helped

My BO, who is an all day crower, gets hoarse from time to time. I've seen others post with the same concerns. I would say watch him for other symptoms but don't worry too much. Mine gets his full crow back within a couple of days.

My Rooster Flocke he crows all day long too, I had always thought that they only crow in the mornings, but he crows like every 15-20 min. Maybe that's the reason he lost his crow and sounds so horrid now.
