Can we eat them?

Mrs. Kravitz, the judgy feral chicken plucked from her suburban bus station habitat and set loose upon the grounds of our farm, has begun laying eggs in the barn.

Mostly she's free range around here but has spent the last couple months munching (among other things) some medicated chick food off the ground by our flock.

As a beginner-steward-to-the-birdies, I just wanted to check with y'all and see if there was any reason NOT to eat her eggs. She's certainly gifted us with quite a few hidden behind my feed cans.

Thank you!!!

You might want to take her off the medicated feed for a couple of weeks before you eat the eggs. Also I personally will not trust to eat any eggs found anywhere but the nest. it's too hard to tell how old they may be. They are just eggs so it's not worth the chance. Eggs are selling for 69 cents a dozen in our local store right now so you figure out the worth of taking a chance on a bad egg.

She's made her own nests in the hay in my feed/hay storage room. She's got three of them at the moment.

Someone accidentally walked in on her laying one. Said it was like walking in on someone in the bathroom... they're definitely fresh, I just don't know if this:

would cause a problem?

That's what she was swiping from our little chickens.

Thanks again!

I can't imagine what could be wrong with her eggs. Even if she's eating medicated feed - lots of animals eat medicated feed, and we eat their eggs (and meat).

I personally wouldn't hesitate to eat the eggs that I know are freshly-laid. It's highly unlikely she's been eating anything toxic that would not harm her, yet would pass into eggs in quantity to hurt a human.
