Foster Parents/ Adoption

Oh (sorry I know I'm going a little crazy posting!) and because my backyard fence, standard wood fence six feet tall no kid could climb it.... I can't climb it!, isn't pool fencing that means I have to build a fence just around the pool. I can't just build a fence from my house to the gate that's pool fencing to keep the kids out. Even though there is no other way te kids can get to the kiddie pool, I have to build a separate pool fence just around the pool and another fence from my house to the fence to keep the kids away from the ducks during daycare hours for the ducks safety. Two fences for a kiddie pool when there is no way that a kid could get over the first!

That is crazy. I would ask if there was a way around that! I mean you shouldn't have to pay thousands of dollars to take care of someone elses child, not to mention almost everywhere NEEDS fosters so they SHOULD work with you!

There's not a way around it. We can build the two fencing, but it's not something open for interpretation. I told them my husband will look at the rules, build the fence and they can inspect before I fill there little pool.

I have to do it for the daycare anyways and I knew I would have to build a fence that was strong and no one could climb, but this is a little over the top

Well I put in an "inquiry" almost a month ago and still haven't heard a word back. After some serious internet scouring I found there will be a introduction meeting next tuesday that they do once a month... they give an address but not a time.

Apparantly I live in a state that is known as a bad foster state because they drag their feet and are SOO SLOW! I do realize they are super busy and the workers have too many cases but you would think they would have volunteer positions or just an automated email to let prospective foster parents know where they can go for the meetings... especially since we apparantly need fosters here!

Oh man! That horrible, I'm sorry! The good news is I bet once you go to that meeting then they will hopefully be able to give you more info about the next steps. We got tons of info at orientation and they were very helpful. That's crazy that if it's a state that needs foster parents it so hard to find anything! The good news is it might make it so there is "less in line" to adopt. I know that doesn't sound right.

I think every state "needs" foster parents, because they all depend on them for a home for children in need. As for mine just by how slow they are to respond I would imagine they needed them bad if their case load is so heavy that they don't have time to respond... at least I'd like to think I'm not being blown off!

I'm sure your exactly right! Your state may just not have enough social workers to handle the load, which is sad for the kids ad those trying to help them. at least there are people like you willing to spend all the time trying to get everything figured out :)

We have a LOT of problems with our DHS.

Its been over a month since I inquired and I have heard NOTHING at all until today, and that is because yesterday I wrote the governor to let him know of not only my own but others problems with our Arkansas DHS because it hurts the children!

I find it utterly reprehensible that I have to write the governor to get a response!
