"Fostering" Baby Chicks

My hubby would bean me. Lol. That's why I took those bantam cochins, easier to sex earlier and I heard they are pretty easy to get to go broody on que.

Sheesh, what all kind of chickens do you have? Might have to start stalking you :p

I have 6 FBCMs, 1 black tailed buff maran, 1 Ameracauana, 2 blue Opringtons, 2 buff orpingtons, 2 mille fleur, 2 bantam cochins, 1 barnevelder, 1 silkie ee, 2 white silkies and 2 slw. I hope to have FBCM available next year and possilby silkies or mille fleurs. I forgot about the 2 that were given to my son at chickenstock, but dont know what those are yet. Most of these I am waiting to sex. All my cockerels except 1 FBCM and depending if one of either a silkie or mille fleur Im keeping there rest are going. I think I might have 2 cockerel FBCM but not positive. I go out every day and doubt myself, about 2 more weeks I should know for sure tho.

I have 2 bantam OEGBs that have gone broody twice each - and they are only a year old! Last fall, they both hatched 4 chicks each and this spring one had a hidden nest that was found, so she's moved back to the coop. The other went broody in a nest box and after about 2 weeks, we gave her chicks from the local feed store. She accepted them willingly - except for one that she pecked to death. Here she is with them hiding under her. She's a bantam and they are standard size, so at 4 weeks old now, they do NOT fit under her, but they are mostly feathered now...
