So........

I'm about to do something I was forbade to do. Husband told me not to even THINK about bringing dogs home from the shelter.

Here's the story:

Get to work at about 7 Saturday morning. Start my round in the main kennel area. I always start by looking at each dog and reading the new dog kennel card and information. When what do I see? A German Shepherd puppy.

Seriously? Yeah.

Gorgeous, 6 month old female, obviously purebred. She's cream/white though, from show lines. I tried really hard to avoid her..really I did. I know don't trust my heart right now after putting Foenix to sleep, nearly a month ago. So after two hours of avoiding her in the kennel I decide her water bowl looks dirty so I open her kennel door and go in. She jumps up on me and I brace for impact. But there's NO impact, just feather light paws on my arm and licking my jaw. Good Lord

I about melted right there. She jumped up which is naughty, but she was so polite in her improper behavior LOL

Why does she have to be so sweet, so loving, so wonderful? Her name is Shyanne, but she's not shy...nor does she look like an Anne to me.

So after that the Behaviour Team, including myself, has our meeting. We decided to use our new behavior testing prop -- a very well posed Taxidermy specimine of a coyote LOL!!! We did a few tests and video taped them. All very interesting. Then someone (might have been me, I can't quite remember

) suggested that Shyanne get to have her chance at meeting the coyote. So one of the other trainers goes and gets her, and somewhere between that moment and about ten seconds later I have her leash in hand. About five seconds after that this puppy is sitting in my lap and I am getting told by my boss that this dog is either, very clearly, my new dog, or that I will be her ticket out of the Shelter.

So after she is spayed in a couple days I get to to a "cage break" lol and bring her home for a test drive. Today Eric, Hannah and I all went to see her. Shyanne is fabulous with Hannah, really, couldn't have been more perfect. Thats what I held my breath to see. Even Eric likes her. My heart is in serious danger of being stolen by this dog.

Had to click on this, as I lived in WA for about a year, and volunteered at that shelter as a kid. XD. Wondering if you guys are using the stuffed coyote to test for dog aggression? If so, you might consider switching to a taxidermy dog instead, or just use the yote as a small test before live dog tests, as even dogs that are not dog aggressive may not respond favorably to a coyote.
As for the pup, I really hope things work out, and that she gets a loving, new home, and you get a loving, new dog. She sounds wonderful. Let's see some pics of this cutie!

The coyote is to test dogs for their reaction to a new dog, not dog aggression per sey. You can see what the true reaction is within the first five seconds of the interaction, much after that the dog realizes the "dog" isn't normal and the reaction becomes false. We are only testing the initial reactions. We are video taping the sessions and will probably put a behavior education video with it. I also have suggested we use a real dog not a wild canine for this. But for now this is what we have. On a funny note the coyote is on wheels and has a collar on and we take it for "walks" haha with the dogs. The expression on the dog's faces is priceless.

Pictures are needed. I do understand, my DS found his dog in a similar manner. We where catching cats for some friends who's mother had a bunch of cats in her house like over 20 so we went to get the cage my DH says lets look at the dogs. Okay strange but okay, so we look at the little dogs nothing walk into the big dog section 3 cages down there sits a full breed husky. We knew she was meant for DS, went and got him showed him to her and they went out side and adopter her that day. Her name is Suki its Japaneses for beloved/friend and they are prefect for each other she has one brown eye and one blue eye just what he wanted. Its funny how life works out.
