Found 4 abandoned chickens

You're welcome. I'll look forward to seeing their pics in that section tomorrow. If the Barred Rock is crowing, it is very likely a rooster. Hens do crow on rare occasions, but when it happnes, it's usually an older hen who has assumed the role of a rooster in a roosterless flock.

Michael - I tired to post pictures and link to videos I took this morning of the chicks but I guess I don't have permission yet to post pictures and links. Got this message: You do not currently have permission to publish offsite links or images. Your submission will be sent to our moderator team for approval. Thank you for your patience.

It will take a few more posts before you can post photos. I think..around 40 posts..someone correct me if I am wrong. So, just keep posting in some places that look fun to visit in the meantime..trust me, you will hit the right number soon! Fun place here at BYC. :)

Hi Rebecca, welcome to BYC!

Kind of you to look after the abandoned chickens. Good luck with them, hope you end up with some girls (would you be keeping those?).

Nice to have you here!

We plan to keep the girls if there are any :)

HI Michael - the post with the pictures and links to videos of the chickens finally posted. I already got some experts telling me I have three cockerel. Good news is I found a ranch nearby that rescues roosters. So happy they will be in a good home.

I went over and looked at your posted pics and you do have three cockerels. The Black Australorp is your only hen. BAs are great hens to have though. They are extremely hardy, calm and gentle (my children and granddaughter made lap pets of ours), and the best layers of the standard brown egg laying breeds. I'm glad you found a good place to re-home the three roosters.

Welcome to BYC, Rebecca! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

How great of you to take in those abandoned chickens. Those are lovely breeds too. Good luck taking them to the animal shelter. I hope they can find a happy, forever home. Definitely check out the links provided by the other members. Good luck and welcome to this community.
