I found a “practice” egg in the middle of my yard. I left it alone to see if the ducks would do something with it. They just left it alone so I decided to start the incubation process myself. But now the momma duck has started laying her eggs in her nest about 7 eggs now. She hasn’t sat on them yet to start her incubation process yet. My question is can I add the egg I’ve started incubating to her nest once she’s started incubation? I’m afraid it might hatch earlier than the eggs she’s sitting on.

How far along is the one you've incubated? If its only a few days difference, then yes, you can add it. If its more then that, then down add it. If the one hatches, then momma may give up on the rest of hatching eggs and stop incubating them for the single baby.

You can add the new baby to the brood once they start hatching. At night when the babies are hatching or the day they hatched. You may be abel to slip the baby you incubated in with momma, like you would if her brood never hatches, and with feed store babies.

It’s been 7 days now since I started the incubation process but she hasn’t started sitting on her eggs yet.
