Found a baby opposum

Heard it last night and couldn’t figure out what it was... it’s under the stairs by the coop so I think the mom was trying to get the chickens and the baby fell off (there was only one and that’s unusual)

So now I know I need to make sure the run is totally secure for daytime use ONLY...

Waiting to take this one to a wildlife rescue

I know... it’s definitely secure...
nobody goes out in the run yet but when they do that’ll be secure.

Mama Opossum was probably hunting mice. They are voracious mice eaters. This often takes them close to chickens since mice are rampant around chickens. Sometimes Opossums attack chickens, yes, but more often they actually don’t. I observed this on cameras set up at my prior home. I’d take that little one to nearest wildlife rehab. Can find one online. Opossums are an important part of our ecosystem.

Oh I did. Baby went to raven ridge wildlife center.

I had a adult possum dig under a fence years ago and kill a bird. It made the mistake of coming back the next night. I trapped it inside the pen where it had dug under the fence the night before. I do have game cameras in several places on my property.
