When I went to let my chookies out this morning I spotted this Tailed Emperor in the long grass. I guess its wings were still damp from the heavy dew as it didn't immediately fly away. Never seen one before. Not rare but uncommon.​

The three Muskateers.

Embla on her own with Mustard Seed.​

The chicks are fully integrated with the rest of the tribe while still running their own little secret society. Pretty sure Embla is close to full size given her biological mum is obviously Tootsie. She has a much sweeter nature than Tootsie, who can be venomous. Just look @ how she terrifies Anixe.​

Today she was eating apple left overs, I geve my chickens, too.

I thought the tribe was doing pretty well until this happened.
It's been a while since anyone was sick.
A cursory look on-line suggested Chavi had a respitory infection but naturally it was the Easter weekend, we have a fuel shortage & the vet only arrives once a fortnight & is always booked out- apart from the fact the chicken specialist remains in Rocky.

I girded my loins & isolated her on the back porch while I hunted up the bits & pieces I've hoarded over the years from other emergencies. I've been swabbing the eye with warm water & giving her antibiotics & to my infinite relief her eye was open this afternoon & the swelling has gone down. Still not 100% but definitely heaps better than it was. Hopefully she can rejoin the tribe in the next day or so.​

Poor girl! So glad she's improving.
